Fighting in a wheelchair!?

I was watching a crime drama on tv the other day and in one part a man in a wheelchair attacked someone and they managed to run away (but were being beaten).

Now im sure being in a wheel chair would strengthen someone's arms but it doesnt allow for very much mobility or the use of the legs.

Could someone in a wheelchair really beat an average able bodied person in a fight?

no...soorry....unless the person knows like...one hit one kill techiques then no...and besides...most techniques come from the legs or need the legs to work effectively....im not knocking martial artists in wheelchairs...but it just wouldn't work out

They might get lucky and sink a choke against an untrained opponent, barring that no way.

i got into a fight with a kid once when i was trying to get my clothes from his house ( i used to live there)
his stepdad was in a wheel chair. Some ex navy seal or something. he grabbed me and tried to hit me.
my mom yanked his wheelchair out from under him ( totally hilarious)
so my answer would be a firm no. my own mom defeated an ex military special forces guy in a wheel chair.

I would be careful though because some of them are at crotch punching height in those chairs. A funny story I heard on the radio a while back was when an elderly lady in an electric wheelchair was caught shoplifting at a grocery store. She smacked the clerk and sped off. The clerk jumped onto the back of the chair holding on trying to stop her knocking over everything in their path. She drove the chair through a glass window of the store and the clerk being unable to hold on let go hitting the ground pretty hard. The old lady was never found after that.
