  • Is 30 to old to start training BJJ

I'm moving from NH to CT and I'm interested in starting to get back into MA, but I was think of trying BJJ. Is 30 to old to start training? I study Goju Ryu for about a year when I was 17. I didn't a bunch of AAU tournments and won most of them. I hoping to get back into competition form. What are you thoughts?

Even old dogs can learn new tricks...

You're not THAT old but most of the studens of BJJ in the local academy are about 20 years old...

    Don't be scared.

My instructor took a forty year old new student, to a world masters champ in ten years. That´s one thing I love about BJJ - technique can overcome stamina, although you´ve awesome if you´ve got both . I´m 37, competing, and loving it so go for it.

Y'know what one of my instructors said to me once.. (Im 18 Btw,)

"dont worry about getting beat up by a fat old man, you'll improve"

this guys gotta be like.. +50 for sure... and he smokes me... he doesnt look like the fittest guy in the world either....

your 30... would you call yourself a fat old man?...

if a fat old man can own a 18 your old, what should stop you....

now he does have alot of technique and skill.... but thats beside the point.. you can get where hes at and much farther by the time your 40 nvm 50.

The old men are the ones who scare me! lol

lol I never said you were fat....

the point is that "a fat old man" can dominate a "rather fit" (like to think so anyway) 18 year old...

he called himself a fat old man....

my point is your 30, (not old), your not fat, (not fat), and this fat old man can do it, so why couldnt you.

Absolutely not too old. The old guys are usually the sneakiest too!

Only if you believe in your mind you're old.

Shee it, I wish I started Jiu Jitsu when I was 30.
                        I started right before I turned 37.

I'm not as strong as most of the guys, and of course, I'm not as quick as most.
But I've learned what my strengths and weaknesses are and don't have that young, huge ego that makes you stupid.

Go and try BJJ because every day you wait, you are one day older....

age is only in your mind.
