  • What do you guys do with a front headlock?

Whenever I grapple and somebody shoots in for me, one of my typical responses is to sprawl and put them in a front headlock. From there I usually knee their head, then pull them into an inside cradle, knee their head some more, and if the guys subdued enough, go to backmount and finish them off with some elbows or a choke. But that's pretty much it for me, I can't seem to do anything else from the front headlock position. What do you guys do from this position?

You knee people in the head in training? Wow.

I'm not sure I understand your terms: front headlock, inside cradle. Can you explain those?

    BTW, it's 'mahatma' not 'mahadma'.

I'm quite rusty at bjj, but I would sprawl and/or try to secure a guilotine choke as you bring him into your guard. If he is experienced, he might turn his head to releave the pressure from the choke and try to work his way out. As he is working his way out, you might try to bicycle to get your legs up and secure a triange? (but I think this may take some flexibility on your part)

Well, easy, fight smarter not harder, lock in a guilitine choke.

Ok, by "front head lock" I mean when you have one of your arms around his neck and your other arm around his shoulder/neck. It's sorta like a overgrown guillotine choke. The " inside cradle" is a technique used in wrestling. From a front headlock, drag your opponent down to his knees ( he should be on all fours). From there, grab one of his legs and pull it towards you while still keeping control of the side of his neck. Then, pull his leg towards his head and his head towards his knee. It's a very uncomfortable position for your opponent, not to mention that his trapped head is an excellent target for your knee . The front head lock is commonly used in Greco Roman wrestling. I'm sorry I did not make this clear before. OH, it's Mahatma Gandhi, oops, I gotta lay off the coffee .

Not too good at the BJJ (see my thread... sucking at BJJ!

But my first reaction would be a guillotine choke/neck crank type move.

Side Headlock: I might try this if you have me in a side headlock with your right arm: Get my right hand up to block strikes as I (using good base) step my left leg behind you quickly and fluidly moving in that direction slide my left arm across your back and hook or grab your left upper arm just sliding out of it and having your back.

Front Headlock: I might try this if you have me in a front headlock with either arm: Jump my legs around your waist and use my weight and effort to pull you to the mat where I can get out of it.
