Hi Everyone I'm new to this site and I have a question for yall

I recently started training Muay Thai and my instructor is teaching the class grappling and ground fighting. I was wondering if Muay Thai allowed ground fighting like armbars or just stand up grappling, is it different for the amateur and pro levels? I would like to hear your guys knowledge on the subject

MT is just kickboxing and all stand-up, they don't allow armbars and the like. They do use a lot of clinchwork for stand-up grappling but that's about it.

      Au contraire

Modern sport muay Thai is all stand-up, gloved fighting inside a ring. But there are still schools, in Thailand, Europe and North America, where old-style muay Thai is taught. The curricula is long but contains both stand-up and ground fighting, and often traditional Thai weaponry. You may even be lucky enough to find a Thai Silat school. You just have to do your homework.

        Ground work

To add just a little bit, although MT doesn't allow the ground fighting, it is a great thing to have in your personal defense "tool belt". The more you learn, the better.

my answer, if you're considering fighting muaythai in a thai boxing ring...ground work is not allowed.
if you're considering using muay thai as a self defence...use it at your expense...very effective, that is if your master teaches you the grappling from muaythai...they usually don't, not all of it at least.
