  • boxer's break

A couple of weeks ago I hit my hand on something (face and head of a$$hole)
and my pinky knuckle sort of pushed in. My hand was swollen for a while and before MT on Tuesday my coach said that it is broken and not to hit anything for six to eight weeks. Since I don't have insurance I didn't go to E.R. or anything. I was wondering if anyone here has had experience with this injury? From what the guys at the gym were saying the bone gets compressed and sort of bursts on the side leaving it shorter and fatter. Should I perhaps put some sort of splint on my pinky/end of hand to keep it straight or what? Sensei Cooper said that it would have to be rebroken to fix so I'll probably just live with it. At least untill I have insurance and break it again. It Doesn't hurt but If anyone knows a way to make it heal any better that would be cool. Thanks so much to anyone who actually read this entire rambling post

Not really what you're asking, but if you don't have insurance you might qualify for medicaid or medicare (one of them), but I would try my damnest to see a doc. If you can't, like you're coach said, ease off it until it feels completely better and even then wait a couple of weeks. Ease back into MT slowly. Ice might help it too. I wouldn't f' around with splints and stuff unless you know what you're doing.

It all depends on how the bone broke. Boxers fractures come in all shapes and sizes. I went through that once, but the bone did not completely snap in two in my situation.

Because you say your knuckle appears to have "pushed back", then its likely you did snap the bone in two, or even fragment the bone. In either case, you really should find a way to get to a doctor to have it looked at.

      Good Luck!

You live in or near a big city. Every big city has a hospital that will except you on a hardship case. You will just need to do the research to find out where it is. When a homeless person need medical attention they get it. You just need to find out how and where. Just get the attention don't fcuk with and thing like that.

That is so cool. I had never heard of that before. It's not like I''m broke, my insurance just hasn't kicked in yet for my new job and I was self employed for three years prior. Even though I have income maybe they will consider me a "hardship case" when they see the medical bills that pilled up over the past three years. Thanks for the advice everyone!!
