  • Training Advice ?

Hey, I'm thinking of adding some training at home rather than just at the gym. I don't have a heavy bag, but was considering putting on my shin guards and going out to a tree and kicking and punching it with a mild level of intensity. I feel if I use control this could really improve my shin conditioning and especially my teeps, because I can use a little more power with the teeps since I'll have shoes on. Also the tree won't give and after going on it for awhile a person won't feel like much.

So what does everyone think ? Is this a good or bad way of training ? Also any suggestions will be appreciated.

i kick trees. if your gaurding your insteps and shins, have at it. lol. i got the perfect tree, it's a pine about 7 ft before the brances start and one branch thats about 3 inches thick about 3 ft above my head. I use it as my heavy bag and pull up bar, i do batmans on it too (hanging situps). It's perfect. Remeber to respect your tree though, don't tear a ring of bark off from over using it or the tree will die.

      Have fun. Peace.

No not joking at all. I always work my teeps with a brick wall, in fact we use this drill in class, but now I want to work the rest, so I decided to use a tree. The pads of course is to not cut my shins up on the bark.

I just wouldnt get the satisfaction out of kicking a wall... I mean no matter how hard you kick it, it's not going anywhere. How do you know if you're improving?

Edit: Also, when you teep someone it's not going to be anything like teeping a wall, they can move, then can also turn their body which will probably roll your foot off. If you're going to kick something hard which isnt going to move, wait until it rains and kick a streetlight. You might look retarded, but your foot will slip off the sides if you dont hit it in the right spot. Which is more realistic -- than at least a tree or wall.

To me I'm training to penetrate ! Now granted just doing that alone is not a lot. You need to spar to practice hitting in a realistic setting. This is true for everything almost. I like the feel of a wall or tree, ect. The fact that it doesn't give when contact is made allows me to train really thrusting it in ! It's like thai pad training. Your partner is feeding you a foot jab and they really plant their body to take the kick. Now I know you woudn't plant your body in a real situation, but hopefully you know what I'm saying.
