i've been doing alot of sparring lately (w/o shinguards ) and my shins are pretty tender. On top of all the bone to bone contact we were kicking a tire as a heavy bag the other night. Needless to say my shins have taken a beating that they are not used to. I have only been training MT for 5 months so my shins are not conditioned to this abuse. My question is is it better to let my shins heal to where it doesn't hurt to kick anymore or should i work through the pain? I am not sure how to approach this problem because it has been a week since a full day of sparring and about 3 days since kicking the tire and they are still very sore. anybody else have to deal with this?

start with varing surfaces building up to a hard bag over a long period, drink lots of milk & remember that just because it doesn't hurt this doesn't actually mean that your legs are harder as you can deaden the nerves over a period of time.

      ...

For getting stronger shins I have just kickt bag and mitts. 5 mounths isent that long period of trining. But later you can do it. Its just kick bag and mitts and do some hard kicks with shinguard to the legs then.

I agree with just kicking the bag for a good amount of time. I think rushing yourself (kick hard surfaces) could lead to some unwated results. Take your time, you don't need to be Tong Poe over night. =)
