The royal courts of Cambodia, Burma and Siam all fostered swordsmanship, and these are highly advanced and refined arts, not in the same class as training given to the mass soldiers.
whats that got to do with anything, i have trained both and thai sword work is not in the same league as kali, sorry.
its simple and effective yes but doesnt match up to kali mainly because it is too simple, but i guess you are thai and its going to piss you off or something.
    nevermind.

Ghost you do realize that their are people with more experiance than you in Kali and Krabi Krabong who hold Krabi Krabong in high regards?

The Dog brothers think enough of Krabi-Krabong to incorporate it into their system alongside Kali and they believe strongly the two styles compliment each other well.

Why would they bother to study and train Krabi Krabong if it doesn't have anything to offer compared to Kali?

Especially since they test these arts with as much realism as possible.

I really don't see how you can make these assumptions, but you seem to be fond of doing that from what I have seen of your posts.

Ghost in your thread about what makes a good martial artist I believe you left out a critical quality, HUMILITY all great martial artists I have had the pleasure of meeting or training with have this quality in abundance.

I would suggest making an attempt to cultivate some yourself, it would do you a world of good.

Thanks a lot Sportmuaythay, this will do. I will forward the names to a friend and see if he has the time to try translating them.
Yes my teacher studied among the hills in northern Thailand and he said the Burmese influence is strong both in Lanna sword and staff.

ive said several times i think its a good system, i think kali is better.
i have studied both, as i have said before, and incorporate elements of both into my weapons training too. catching on?

i think kali is the bettter system of the two.

Why cant i have the opinion that kali is better than krabi krabong?

No one is saying you can't have an opinion, but to make such broad generalizations about the depth of an art makes you look like a horse's ass.

i.e. The weapons training you categorize as simple and used for quickly training a large group of people was also used for guarding the royal house holds of these nations for hundreds of years.

Maybe the royal bodyguards during a time where firearms were
non-existent were content with what you in your infinite wisdom and unlimited experience have judged as simple and lacking in depth.

it lacks depth compared to kali in my opinion and is therefore a more simple system. i really like it. i dont see what your problem is.

Ghost, you do realize that you're in the "Thaiboxing..." Forum right now? Of course people are going to argue with your statement. You're quite free to like Kali, but don't expect that when you say "Kali is better than Thai weapons because Krabi-Krabong lacks depth" on a Thai style forum, to not be contradicted. We are just as free to think that Thai weapon work is graceful, effective, and full of depth if that's what we think.

PS. in the US, for Muay Boran I'd recomend Khru Brian Dobler in "Rancho-coucka-mounga" California. (I will never be able to spell that, lol) Or in the North west, for Muay Boran or Krabi-Krabong, Ajarn Steve ..... shoot what's his last name? He's at Ajarn Chai's camp every year, he had a big peanut allergy this last time, really funny man... Help me out here guys, what's his last name?

im the one being attacked for having my own opinions, not them.

im not going to be PC and state that all systems are the same when i dont believe it. i like krabi krabong and use it myself, how many times do i have to say the same thing before people get it.

Heh heh lol, I'm not pissed, and sympathize with you. You're of course entitled to express your opinion, but I'm also at liberty to prevent people from being misled by yours . If all you've eaten is fish 'n' chip, you will obviously think western food is bland. However, those who have been served by michellin chef will know differently. It depends on your exposure. BTW how much training have you had and how many hours have you put into training of Thai sword? You need not let me know to satify my curiosity. I'm not even asking who your teacher of Thai sword is.

ive spent about 6 months doing krabi krabong and have spent studied in the Philippines as well for a similar amount of time in kali, but have studied this in the uk as well for a lot longer, im basing my opinion on that as its what i have to go on.
