  • Heavy bag kicking?

I have a punching bag that I of course use for punching. I was wondering though if I should using it for practicing my kicks. The reason why I'm asking is because I'm assuming that the skinnier heavy bags (which are the ones actually used for kicking) would be more appropriate. However I don't have one of those at the time. So would a regular punching bag be the next best thing to use?

    Thanks.

I think you are fine if you use it for kicking, I have worn martial arts show while kicking and I have been fine.

Go for it mate, kick away.

I wouldn't recommend a long skinny bag for kicking anyway.....if you're going to get one then get a great big long bag. Just a personal opinion.

I believe that punching bags are made for striking and kicking so you can go for it.

I agree too, unfortunately some of the quality of the bags don't!

kick away, the skinny long bags arent much good for kicking imo. i dont like the feel of them
what you need is a nice short fat wide heavy bag, like mr wrights mrs

Learning how to use the heavybag is an important tool in training. Correct kicking technique is what its about, especially with the roundkick for muay thai.

Keep a roll of Duct tape handy for repairs if needed. The only thing with a 70-80 lbs bag. If you kick hard it will flop around alot. The long heavy bags need a bit more to move them.

I recommend to use punching mitts for punch trainning only. You can use kicking pads for punch and kick training but I thing kicking pads not good for focus to punching, you should use the right gear on the propose your training.
