  • Should you take it to the ground?

theres a good chance that one of these days might be in a conflict with a person i know. we are in the same group of friends and i have heard he has been making threats. its is pretty inevitable somthing will happen. i have about 6 inches on the dude in height and we weigh the same amount. i would say i have a huuuuge reach advantage on him.. my plan if it happens the way i think it might is to hit with a jab, right straight, left hook, right elbow combo which i practice all the time and am quick with it... my question is after that is it wise to shoot in and try to mount or is it best to keep it on the feet i have very limited bjj and more boxing experience. i dont want to really destroy this guy just want to stop him if he tries...this guy has no trainning or fight experience or heart.

Can't say I'd want to stand toe to toe with a decent boxer. In his place I'd take you there. In your place... I'd get new friends.

Bleh... Taking it to the ground is stupid. Especially if your only decent-ish on the ground. If you know boxing, do boxing. Just fight, no strings attached.

thanks for the tips...i think it would be in my benefit to keep it standing i have the big reach advantage aswell as the experience...hopefully it never gets to that point.

If you have that much of a reach advantage no. Knocking him out standing up is more impressive any way. Do you wrestle or does he wrestle? Are you stronger than him?

Your plan seems like a good one.As people here already said,if your strength is in boxing then you should use that. The only advice I would give is not to be commited too much to some certain specific techniques,as you seem to be with the punch combinations you mention, because you cannot be sure what the other guy will do,and if he surprises you and you have already set in your mind what you are going to do,you will be unable to react quickly to what the other guy does.

Too bad you don't REALLY understand what being the "BIGGER MAN" actually means...

Seriously dude? Set it up! Invite your friends. ADVERTISE the event on the Internet and get some tips from "real" fighters...

Make sure you get it on video too. (I'd like to see it) I'm sure everyone would enjoy a good laugh if nothing else. You can show the world what a tough guy you are (moron).

PLUS!!! IF you get amnesia of the event your buddies can show you what happened after you wake up in the hospital! Or maybe the lawyers will like to have it as EVIDENCE in the lawsuit your "victim" might file five years down the road....
              Think of the FUN!

and then don't show... it's the only sure way to "win"

Sounds to me like you two should meet under the monkey bars when you do this and have the whole 4th grade yell fight fight fight! While you both bitch smack each other.

                  Kids these days.

He talked trash so far and your this concerned about it. You try asking him what the beef is and how you too could resolve it, or is that considered pussy these days?

Tant01 is a a wise man who sees the entertainment value in this confrontation AND the entertainment value in the fact that it's quite ridiculous!

Does the other guy have ANY experience in grappling. That makes a huge difference. I'd say make him eat jabs. but I you achieve a knockdown, then mount and ground and pound.

...Take a communications class. Seriously. Maybe try to avoid the fight by using a little verbal judo and a lot of swallowed pride and maybe keep your friendship instead of being so immature. Drop the machismo B.S. and be responsible. "Being a man" means taking care of yourself and your own and PROTECTING yourself...as it stands with your situation, you are deliberately putting yourself into a shitty situation (by exacerbating a minor one) that has the potential to have some real negative implications. Most of the time, the thing that protects you and keeps you safe and helps keep you providing for your loved ones...is applying common sense instead of applying ego.

Be smart. We were all young. I won't rip on you like some of the others here have, because I remember being a dumbass. Just please head my warning and take these words to heart, because I have seen it and been through it...certainly my fair share of shit. Don't make the mistakes made by so many hot headed kids trying to look for an excuse to try out their training (get a ring fight, or set up friendly matches if that's what's under your skin). You have nothing to prove to anyone else either...saving face through violence only matters in prison, and that is likely where it will send you. Be honest with yourself, man. BE COOL. BE SMART.

I hope this shit hits home. If you want, PM me.
