I don't think people are all that uptight. Rather, I think that many, many people in this country (I can't speak for other ones) live their lives vicariously through television - therefore stunts like that are the most exciting things they have to think about.

Janet Jackson is a hot lady but for me its Halle's bust, jlo's butt and jolies lips.
hilton is about as appealing to me as a toothpick. As for the whole skin thing, I think its ridiculous. Truth is yeah it was a stupid idea to show off her goods but still nipple slips and ass shots make it on live tv all the time. The only difference is that this was planned. What pisses me off was they skipped an episode of ER because it had breasts. comeon people. Its a medical drama. who is going to get off on some chicks tatas when her guts are hangin out of her stomach.

I think the issue is really about network (free) tv vs cable and peopel are sponsor conscience. Ultamitley, the US is still a very conservative country in many repects. However if this happened on cable it would be different, even if you look at most of the music videos they show more than Janet.

Another point is that everyone blames Janet, but it was Justin that grabbed her. I also thought it was interesteing that the media assumed it was intentional as opossed to an accident which does happen. and it was for a hot second, glad to see it but not worth the media hype.

We should be more like the spanish networks. They get away with the craziest things that even other cable networks would not dare show. In fact there was this one comedy sketch show where in almost every skit there had to be some chick taking off her clothes for almost no reason at all. One skit had a maid dusting in black thong lingerie that was so damn see through she might as well be naked. I slept well that night.

That makes for some interesting extremism in our culture. Co-ed locker rooms and showers would never fly in the US.
