or just beat on them until they decide to leave, or if they take the beating each time, reassess why you don't want them around.
yeah i had thought about beating them to bits lol, i teach privates only though and i dont spar, been hit in the head too many times over the years now and dont want to push it. but might be worth sparring just to get rid of.

or i guess i could make the lessons really boring but hard making them kick all the way through it or something.

      I've done this 3 times.

      1) A guy who was a total jackass and brought nothing to class but negative energy. Easy enough - I was rude. I told him to leave and that he was no longer welcome in my classes.

      2) A guy who was not very solidly connected to reality - so to speak. I was nicer with him but essentially the same process. I said, "You're not really cut out for training with me." He asked why and I said, "You need to mature a bit." He asked why and I said, "The fact that you have to ask pretty much sums it up."

      3) A guy who was - I don't know how to put it. He kind of rubbed me the wrong way but it wasn't anything specific so I let it slide for a bit. Then my other students started telling me they didn't like him either but, like me, they couldn't really pinpoint a "why" either. I knew that if I didn't get rid of him I would start losing other students. I used price raise on him. It worked.

Why don't you just be honest with the guy. Perhaps refer him to another school or another style.

Sometimes the most simple and direct (read "efficient") solutions are overlooked.

          Best reply so far!

          Good on you.

Discipline from someone you respect is done from friendship.

If you don't like TEACHING him or you don't LIKE HIM...

There are any number of reasons to "cull" a few from the list.

All the more reason to screen prospective students.

I just don't have enough TIME to teach the numbers of students that NEED my individual instruction. If I had a "class" of 12 or 20 it might be different but private lessons would take WAY too much of my day...

"You'll need to find a new coach/trainer..." Give him a couple weeks notice?

EZ? It's not "high grading" to throw back a little fish...

how do you go about screening students beforehand?

How do you find time to teach privates to 30 different people?

Are you teaching one student at a time? I get burned out sometimes teaching two privates in one day.

one at a time. When i was training in thailand i was holding pads several hours a day, it is very hard work, but i mix it up with technique based stuff and so on.
Diet is excellent, i know a lot about diet and i aim for 9 hours sleep a night.

Works out ok for me so far.
I was tired teaching 2-3 a day when i started teaching again, i only been here a few months and as ive added new students its been initially very tiring then the body just adapts.

What im saying is that its always hard but you can add more on and your body will adapt, it will still be hard but your body can adapt to doing more.

I dont spar much though, i do thai style padwork where its like sparring to some degree. if i sparred fully as well it wouldnt work.

Well... I don't really have "students"... I have friends and family. My services are free...

But I don't GIVE it to just anyone.

so you teach your mummy then

I used to be teaching friends and family but when i decided to make a living out of it, then needs change so i cant be too picky any more.
