Do you think the conditioning level of European/American MMA fighters exceed far greater than Japan's? As I watch and more competitions, it seems like European & Americans have more muscle definition, and higher cardio. I love Japanese fighters, like Sakuraba and Takanori Gomi, but they're no way defined like Chris Brennan, Quinton Jackson, or Guy Mezger. The only few Japanese fighters that seems like they have a high level of conditioning is Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto, Rumina Sato, Hayoto Sakurai, Genki Sudo, Daijiro Matsui, and Kawajiri. This is not an insult to Japanese MMA'st, but just a simple observation.

Lots of MMa fighters lift weights, I've seen that they include it in their workout but stop before the fight in a week or two. The ripped look isn't needed to be a good fighter, there was an old form of working out(forgot its name), it only included workouts without weights but you don't develop the outer muscles, I don't know how to say it but it develops the "inner" muscles which don't show but they give you enormous strength, it included things like one handed pushups and 1 leg squats.

the outer look of a fighter dosent represent his skills atall, there are plenty of bloated up muscle bound guys who cant take a beating, look at the shaolin monks, i look alot stronger and muscular than they do, they are usually skinny with not much bulk, or kinda chubby with a thick build but untoned, and they have enormous inner strenth wich far exceeds the outer muscle strenth, Qi strenth has nothing to do with muscles whatsoever, and muscles have nothing to do with bieng able to take a hit for protection, i have pounded shifu shi yanzis body with powerful blows that would fold a regular guy, and he dosent even flinch or seeme ffected whatsoever.
looks can be decieving, look at mas oyama im more toned than he was but he would rip me apart.
peace.
