    ok so im looking into getting into MMA
    my friend invited me to go to his kickboxing gym to train and spar with some guys... but before i start doing that i would like to tighten up and drop some pounds.
    im 16 years old in the 6'3"-6'4" range and weigh about 210 pounds.
    any supplements i should use to get rid of the fat and gain muscle?

            Just that there's tons of companies that prey on people like you and will sell you all kinds of crap that won't help you unless you're taking care of excercise and diet in the first place.

              thats the reason why i came on here to ask people their opinion is on certain supplements from first hand accounts, and i do work out everyday and im starting to diet, i was just seeing if there was more i can do.

                I apologize, then.

                I've gotten great results from the Zone diet and from crossfit.com excercises. Lots of water and snacks between meals. Six meals a day. No white bread, sugar or snacky stuff except beef jerky, cheese, fruit, yogurt, etc.

                I'm anti-supplement and esp. anti-creatine but I do take cod liver oil and use protein powder in my shakes. Bee pollen for energy. Lots of nervines. Multivitamin when I wanted. Ayurvedic rasayanas work better.

                  you dont need supplements bro. you know why? kickboxing is one of the best ways to burn fat and get in shape.

                  when people say they need to get in shape before training, its like saying you need to know how to play guitar first before you sign up for guitar lessons. it doesnt make sense. training in kickboxing is a tough ass workout. thats why its a good art, getting in shape is part of it. any real kickboxing gym will have students doing tons of jump rope, pushups, squats, and TONS of abwork. plus, hitting the backs can build up your muscles and be white a tough workout as well.

                  only buy supplements if you enjoy wasting your money.

                    yea, most of my weightlifter buddies use creatine but i know it only adds water to muscle.
                    i will probably start using protein powder though since i seem to have a lack of protein in my current diet

                      It's always better to try to get what you need from food than from vitamins, or herbs for that matter. Your body absorbs things better in natural form. Eat some red meat.

                      Uh, I guess I should clarify since I said I use protein powder, but it's mostly because I'm often running out the door and so I add it to my smoothies, but also because I get sick of eggs and steak for breakfast. I use whey, milk or egg protein, none of that soy crap.

                        I disagree, if your body is performing at a high rate a lot, supplements are very helpful, as they supply any nutrients the foods you are eating don't provide. Don't rely on supplements, but there's nothing wrong with eating a very healthy diet with a good multivitamin supplement thrown in to cover any weak areas.

                          The only problem is that supplements aren't absorbed by your body the same way food is, so often you still have the deficiency, along with some really expensive urine.
