depends where you are as well. standing on ice or even just in the wet, i dont trust my kicks. i do muay thai not boxing, but standing on ground i think ill slip on im not gonna try to kick them in the head. cos falling on your arse is such a bad thing to do in a fight.
as far as the shock absorbers in your arm goes, thats true, so move in closer and hit them with your elbow...
angle matters as well. roundhouse kicks hit so much harder than a hook does, but a front kick tends to propel backwards instead of hurting a lot, unlike a right cross.
