  • ITA, PLease stand up!

    Dear ITA Members,

I have recently discovered something that has prompted me to have a discouraging opinion of your organization.

The patterns you promote to teach (the Chon-Ji or Chang Hon patterns) are not as you say. The pattern set itself is lacking many of the patterns (mainly the longer more difficult patterns). Also, the patterns that remain are bastardized beyond recognition. Does the ITA use these patterns names in an attempt to gain credibility for their organization?

Feel free to create your own patterns and name them accordingly; however, I feel it greatly disrespectful to lie to your students. You are not teaching the patterns you claim to teach. This is not misrepresentation, this is a lie!

Please stop lying to your students...

h2o is water...h10 and h30 are not! Therefore, Chon-Ji with only 14 movements is not Chon-Ji!

    TAEKWON!

        Spookey,

Are these patterns taught by the ITA organization or one ITA school?

          ITA Patterns...

          To who it may concern,

These are the patterns as advertised on the "official" ITA websites (www.itaonline.com and www.itatiger.com maybe tigers)

Thank you for the responces...I have been ordered not to continue with this thread on the budoseek.net site, and am receiving a lashing on the martialartsplanet.com site!

Feel free to visit either of these sites if you wish...they can be great forms most of the time!

                  Spookey,

IT sure is a shame that you jump from forum to forum being a pain in the BUTT! Why don't you get a life, and act like a true Martial artist and join the ranks, instead of trying to start arguments and cause trouble everwhere you go. GET OVER IT! You have your style, and everyone else has theirs. So be it!

There are two different ITA's. Spookey is referring to International Taekwondo Alliance. There is also an International Taekwondo Association. The alphabet soup is getting a bit murky these days. My instructor has chosen to remain independent, but teaches the Chang Hon hyungs and considers Choi's Encyclopedia to be The Bible of Taekwon-Do.

I don't know why "Spookey" and his responders are so angry at the world but, as an International Taekwondo Alliance Black Belt, Certified Instructor, and Licensee, I feel the same way about his response as I do when I hear non-Masons sound off about Freemasonry, which they know nothing about. I was a member of the ITF in the 1970's, and have certificates from the Oh Do Kwan to prove it. I have the greatest respect for General Choi and his book was for me the Bible of Korean martial art. The ITA is deeply rooted in the traditions of the Chang Hon Yu. Our three founders have over a century of experience in taekwondo and the ITA is more than two decades old. There are sound reasons why we do not use all of the hyungs, as well as why we changed the White Belt form, which we continue to call Chon-Ji as a respect to General Choi. As a very traditional person, I am always suspicious of change, but every time the ITA Council of Masters has instituted one, it has improved our program. One should not presume to criticize that which one is not familiar with. By the way, we now have a separate name for our style, suggested by Dr. Kimm of LSU, founder of the World Han Mu Do Association, and an advisor to the ITA. It is "Ho Am Taekwondo"--Korean for "Tiger Rock". May we all pursue excellence in our study and use our energies to better our own skills as martial artists.

                        Dear Proud...

                        ProudtobeITA,

The Oh Do Kwan did not issue ITF certificates. The ITF issued their own certification and the Oh Do Kwan issued there own.

Would you care to provide me some assistance related to your "Oh Do Kwan" certification...

                        1. What year was it issued

                        2. What is the name signed on the certificate

                        3. What was the rank and the number on the certificate

This may allow some creadance to your post, but what you said previously does not add up!

                        TAEKWON!

I'm afraid you have missed the point. As far as my certificate goes, I tested under now Grandmaster Kong Young Il, one of General Choi's closest students. And my certificate does list the Oh Do Kwan at the bottom. I only mentioned that to indicate that I have been a part of both organizations, whereas you obviously have little or no knowledge of mine. As one of my ancestors said long ago-walk a mile in my moccasins. The ITA produces not only excellent martial artists, but fine human beings who do not presume to judge others.

                            Call It How It Is!

                            Mr. ITA,

Please answer the question to allow yourself some validity...

What year was your "Oh Do Kwan" certificate issued, and who signed it (not who tested you).

P.S. I hold GM Kong in the highest of regards!

Come on now, answer the question...who signed the certificate that says Oh Do Kwan at the bottom???

                            TAEKWON!

Okay, one last try. My certificate was issued in 1971 and signed by Chang Tae Ik. I assume you know the name. As I said before, I only mentioned it to indicate that I have spent time in your world, while you know nothing of mine. In the ITA, we interpret the tenet of "courtesy" as indicating that we do not run down other martial arts organizations. We all have the pretty much the same destination--self improvement through our training and discipline. Each of us will follow the path that best leads them to their personal goal. You might answer one question for me, though. What is this "Taekwon!" business? When did the Korean words for foot and hand become some kind of battle cry? You might try Dr. Kimm's idea of saying "Han" when they bow. The word has several meanings, all of them positive.
