"The Minnesotan lightweight has been fined $2,500 and suspended 365 days from the date of the fight, including an additional 10 days that would need be served if Sherk reapplied for a license to fight in the Golden State."

"Franca was also fined $2,500 -- the maximum fine the CSAC can levy -- and suspended through July 5, 2008. The Brazilian told MMAweekly.com that he had used a "banned substance" prior to the fight."

Now what good are steroids if your gonna spend the next year sacking groceries??

Why do people lift weights? Shouldn't they be satisfied with their natural abilities? What about dieting? Studying? Practicing?
As for imbibing substances...what about people who take prescribed psychotropic medications to help elevate their moods or keep them steady...shouldn't they just be content with the way they are naturally?

      What about medicine in general?
      Seems pretty unnatural.

      Define natural.

I guess the real trick is...not getting caught. People do illogically illegal activities in all walks off life to either gain an edge or help ensure their own success in endeavors, especially when it comes to things of a financial nature.

Steroids should be legal. They were made illegal out of sheer sensationalism and worried alarmism.

I don't know. I have a few friends that used them and have some stashed, but I've never done a cycle. I owe my oblong figure soley to my diet and inactivity.

I though Franca said the reason he took the roids was because of an ankle problem. I read he was trying to overcome an ankle injury so he could fight as well as pay his bills. Steroids do help you heal faster... When I injured my shoulder/rotator the doctor put me on steroids for two weeks to help with the healing. They were low dosage and were intended to help with my rehab of my shoulder. I know guys who have been busted for taking crap they bought at a health food store. When you combine Andro-6 (not sure if you can still buy it or not) with Creatine and Betagen (all EAS products) you will be surprised at how strong you get in a short amount of time. If it was a substance that indeed was banned from competition then yes they got what they deserved for breaking the rules. However, if we find out that the substance they were taking are supplements that you can walk in and buy from any GNC then I think we need to take a closer look at whats going on.

                Just my opinion guys.

                Tim

It took me a while to catch on, but yeah, that's his sense of humor. It's pretty funny actually, I think.

Sherk tested 12 ng/ml. I think the doctors or whatever say the most a pro athlete who trains alot could produce naturally (without roids) is up to 6 ng/ml.

Royce Gracie recently tested 50 ng/ml.

I think Sherk just trained so hard and combined with those 25 supplements that he took produced such high Nandrolone levels.

Also, theres controversy w/ nandrolone testing:

                    -wikipedia
That's something I was getting at. His levels were only double, and that's not a rediculous amount.

And franca and sherk are both damn good fighters too... If you want to hump up on roids just because your "barely making it" than might want to try Pro wrestling cause MMA is not for you... It's not like it was a surprise test or something either, They'll get tested their PRO FIGHTER'S...Fighters that are supposed to be fighting on even levels...So WTF???
Ummmm... you're an idiot. I'm no longer gracing you with my responses. All I have to say is this: If you're dead broke, have no further marketable skills, and don't want to resort to selling drugs, robbing, or anything of the kind, and you're injured, and roids are the best solution to your injury, you'll take the roids. Not everyone is over privelaged such as yourself. I don't think Franca was trying to hide it... he knew a test was coming. He wanted a paycheck to feed himself and his family, nothing wrong with that.

It's tough to explain to people who haven't grown up underprivelaged, on welfare, or had the tough breaks. I give him credit for not engaging in more shady forms of money making, as many of us have in the past. I'm sure had he not had an injury, that test would have come back clean.

The fight game is fickle...I personally don't fault either one of them for doing it...especially in light of their fiscal responsibilities to their families. Like J-Luck said:
"Franca said he couldn't pay his bills, and was very appologetic. Apparently you've never been broke, or underprivelaged. That's a VERY ignorant statement to make."

and this garbage..."their advantages on roids creates weakness, That S#*t cant be good for your mind.." are you an expert on this subject? What are your credentials on steroids and their usages, or better yet, their physiological and psychological effects upon the human body...if you do, I'll be willing to listen, but as it is now, you're just another ignorant shit-talking armchair warrior. Don't EVEN try to be an armchair psychiatrist or physician...please, just stop now while you're ahead.
Thank you Garland. You've got more common sense and intelligence than 99% of the people here.

One thing though... when was he ahead? Haha.

No, dumbass. Ugh... I said I wouldn't respond... but I'm going to have to put you down. HE WAS INJURED. READING COMPREHENSION, READING COMPREHENSION. HOOKED ON PHONICS... try it out sometime. The substance helps decrease recovery time from an injury.

It's so true. Roids are no where near as dangerous as they are made out to be. In fact, they're relatively safe, in low dosages.

Nope. Sherk got 28 grand and FRANCA got 14 grand.
