    What the hell are you talking about? I couldn't care less if you thought Boxing or Kickboxing wasn't a good workout! I was talking about self defense, the same thing that you were talking about. All I was saying was that training in BJJ, Muay Thai and all those other sports will give you attributes such as endurance, coordination, etc. that will come in handy during a self-defense confrontation. Not to mention the fact that the best way to learn how to fight is by actually fighting, not by doing cooperative exercises. I was also replying to your ignorant claim that it is mandatory to kick during Thai boxing matches. Dude, I recommend that you put to use that "advice" of yours and re-read my post.

    By the way, a Ronin was a masterless Samurai, they were usually not trusted because if you were a Samurai and your master died you either didn't defend him and you didn't commit seppuku, or ritual suicide. You know what buddy, you sound like a little bookworm, the kinda guy that got picked on during highschool and now he's studying aikido because he doens't want to be picked on anymore . Get over your little smart ass comments, other people have different opinions. As long as you make an educated opinion, that's cool. But that whole mandatory kicking thing, the guys at my gym were laughing their asses of yesterday, don't make yourself look like a fool.

      The best strategy to avoid fight is not staying calm but...RUN AWAY and RUN FAST

      I will see how your calmness will help you when you get surrounded by group of people who'd like to rob you, or just beat you up because you ended up accidently in a wrong area.
      You will calmly give them your money, and calmly get some punishment

      So stay calm and cool

      I'll just simply fight - that gives me confidence and self-control, because I know what I can do and don't need to prove anything on the street, and when approached I am staying pretty calm cause I know if smth happens - I break his nose or ribs

          Kicking is mandatory in muay thai ?

          This is not karate competition,
          where you get more points for a kick/

          Or a kick-boxing fight with stipulated number of minimum kicks.

          You are ill-informed yet again,
          and ineffective ?
          Tell me how many times you have been roundhaoused by a mt fighter ?????
          Or dont the people you train with, hit women ???

            Another kick is the hook kick. Use this to hook inside the knee. It’s a fast kick that relies on the natural momentum of your leg’s tendency to retract.

            Few people throw high kicks, but they have their place — distance permitting. High kicks come as a surprise when it’s a brawl, not a MMA tournament. Attack with hands or low kicks, then when he least suspects it, go to the head...
            i love how these threads get so off topic.

            i agree that some kicks like a side kick are effective to some degree. like the jumping side kick that is effective in most situations unless you are fighting someone skilled. and the mechanics of the technique make it work well. low roundhouses are obviously effective. and some other kicks are very usefull.

            but many kicks do not work like the cresent kick and the hook kick and a lot more. they just do not have enough power and they can be telegraphed easily. i believe those kicks are just that "the art of kicking"

            kicks can also be used for much more like defending yourself.

              common sense and politeness should get you out of trouble.. if you join a martial art to avoid violence and to never get into trouble.. i think you have missed the point a bit.. if your goal is to become a more 'harmonic' human being, try to join yellow bamboo or something like that, meditate, eat right, sleep well and have a lot of sex.. BUT if you would like to have the chance to defend yourself when the time arrives when you have to.. then i would recommend realism.. and no, you can't train full contact, everything goes.. that is impossible, if you don't have this nice agreement with the warden at the deathrow ofcourse, but few of us have, so we must find solutions that recemble real life.. and things like MT, bjj, sambo/sombo, krav maga, systema or whatever... sitting on the floor, humming.. well.. it isn't going to save you when the shit hits the fan, it may be a halfgood solution for being good at staying out of trouble, but why choose a halfgood, when you have angermanagment classes, you have terapeuts? that do it all the way? the flawed argumentation a few people lead here is sad.. i hope they realize that they miss, both targets..
