Hey bOo, Its funny watchin you piss the MMa crowd off, but you're actually mistaken, Defendo and defendu are no longer used to train current military.

In fact it hasnt been in QUITE some time however SOME of the concepts survive in some schools but the majority of the current training is based on arrest and control, not killing or crippling an opponent. The original systems were for operators working alone behind enemy lines where discharging a weapon would alert the enemy and guarantee your capture or death. In fact during WW2 the Navy special forces didnt allow their guys to carry firearms at all!! This was because the officers in charge knew they would look for trouble if they were allowed firearms so they were only allowed knives Today you will have back up and multiple weapons to rely on, and the H2H training reflects this...

I'm not insecure...I have no problems with dudes who choose to have their faces jammed into the crotches of other dudes for long periods of time. Have at'er...it's just not my cup of tea.

Besides I was kidding about the "gay" comments...I just felt like posting this because you BJJ guys seem to think that you're the end all be all and that you're so damn deadly...I studied BJJ and I learned some useful things, I can admit that. Like I said BJJ is the foundation of our groundwork in Defendo and many other close quarter combat disciplines. I may not sound like it but I have quite a lot of respect for BJJ. I just don't think it's all that effective on it's own unless you're in a controlled sporting environment.

Can you not, at the very least, agree with me on that point?

Many of my training partners and several of my coaches have and or do work with different Spec Ops groups and I will say once again, in complete honesty, that none of the people I know in the Spec Ops training arena have EVER done "DEFENDO"

My homework is done and you need to get back to school because someone is apparently selling you a sh*t sandwhich and making you smile about it by wrapping it up in a nice little commercial package and calling it "DEFENDO".

My name is Gerald Harris and I train at The Ultimate Combat Training Center in Salt Lake City Utah (http://www.slcbjj.com ) Anytime you're in the region feel free to stop in and check us out . . . I am there damn near every day and everyone knows me (ask for Gerald or "DJ", either will work). I'll be glad to work you through some real world BJJ applications.
Uh huh, Defendo IS a real art, and it WAS taught to SF, but it hasnt been in quite a few years, however, people do in fact teach Defendo and Defendu if you know where to look, Carl Cestari teaches extremely accurate and effective WW2 combatives, so does Bill Shaw...Dont get to excited calling out people you dont know anything about. Cestari's people have a nasty temperment to put it politely...people in the Know go out of their to avoid pissing his crew off...myself included

I haven't called out anyone, I invited Boo to come train and I vollunteered to show him some real world applications of BJJ. It was not a threat or an attempt at intimidation it was an open willingness to reveal who I am, and that I do train, to someone who told me to do my "home work".

I didn't take it as "calling me out"...I took it as calling me on my being a mouthy little jerk hiding behind the anonymity of the Internet! Which is kind of what I'm doing if we really want to tell it like it is. I bet if I did go visit Gerald he would be a gentleman and would most likely teach me a thing or two...Christ the guys been doing this stuff for 20 years.

In all seriousness I believe that BJJ must be part of your skill set to be a really effective, well rounded fighter. I'm just into something new and I've never experienced anything like it. I'm not a scrapper or a thug and at first I was kind of uncomfortable with the brutality and heightened violence of Defendo compared to BJJ...but I had to ask myself when all was said and done at the end of the class which gave me more practical street fighting defense skills and that was Defendo.

Modern Defendo is an evolving discipline that borrows from many martial arts, BJJ, Hapkido, Akido, Muay Thai, Judo, etc...we use the moves and techniques that support our philosophy and fighting style. For instance, we use BJJ yo outmanuever our opponent on the ground but only towards our goal of getting back onto our feet...people in this thread have referred to it as being phone and prepackaged and marketed but I totally disagree. You don't see Defendo fighters compete, have endorsements, etc...because Defendo isn't a sport...I cant take out your eyes in UFC...I cant break your fingers or toes in Pride Fighting...I guess it's like comparing apples to oranges.

Maybe you dont think calling someones art a "shit sandwich" is calling them out.

And people wonder why all the combative sites require a real name to log on, or they go underground completely.
